Prof Thomas Wagner, born 1955 in Mannheim, studied German and Philosophy in Heidelberg und Sussex (Brighton). Initially alongside his studies, he has worked since 1979 as an art critic and freelance journalist; in 1986 he became a freelance staff member at the Feuilleton of ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung’ writing mainly on literature and art. From 1991 to 2007 he was Arts Editor at the ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung’; from 1997 his remit had also included Design. From 1995 to 1997 he was Guest Professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg, where he has taught since 1999 as Honorary Professor for Art History and Art Criticism. In the summer semester of 1998 he held a professorship for Art History at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. He is a member of the AICA, the Internationales Künstlergremium, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Designtheorie und –forschung and the Freie Akademie der Künste Mannheim.
