Moved with his family to New Mexico, keenly interested in art and science

Enrolled in Cornell University to study chemistry

Studied at the studio school of Amedee Ozenfant, supported by odd jobs, including working as a baby photographer. Caught between choices of pursuing a career as an artist or entering various trades

Apprentice to a cabinetmaker, designed and produced first furniture

Loft fire, financial difficulties

1959
First exhibition in New York

Richard Artschwager lived and worked in Upstate New York.
He died February 9, 2013 in Albany, New York.
